You're reading: Rada passes law to reduce Ukrainian army by 8,000 servicemen in 2012

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has adopted a law reducing the total strength of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in 2012 by 8,000.

A total of 265 lawmakers voted to pass this law on Tuesday.

As reported, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych proposed a bill on the reduction of the overall strength of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to 184,000 by the end of 2012, including to 139,000 active-duty soldiers.

According to the document, the total strength of the Ukrainian army in 2012 will be reduced by 8,000 people, including a cut of 5,000 active-duty servicemen.
