The head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, has presented Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych with the order of the first degree of the Russian Orthodox Church of Saint Prince Volodymyr.

Yanukovych obtained the decoration "for his attention to and strengthening of Orthodox Christianity in Ukraine, and to mark his 60th anniversary," the press service of the president reported on Friday.

Patriarch Kirill noted that this is the highest order of the Russian Orthodox Church, which is usually presented to church patriarchs and head of states.
