The political dialog between Ukraine and the European Union requires the continuation of high-level contacts, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.

"We clearly understand that the political dialog between Ukraine and the European Union requires the continuation of high-level contacts," he said during a meeting with EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fuele in Kyiv on Tuesday.

In this regard, Yanukovych said he would be happy to meet with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso in April 2011 at a summit on nuclear power held as part of the events to mark the 25th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster.

The Ukrainian president described as symbolic the fact that his official meetings this year would start with a meeting with a representative of the European Union.

Yanukovych also expressed hope for the completion of the talks on the Ukrainian-EU association agreement and free trade zone.
