You're reading: Participants in unauthorized protest detained in Moscow center

The police have detained young people on Moscow's Teatralnaya Square for lying down on the pavement and shouting anti-government slogans in the course of the unauthorized Day of Wrath, an Interfax correspondent reports from the scene.

An elderly man trying to unfold a placard with opposition slogans and a young woman with a poster demanding free elections were also detained.

Meanwhile, the police have started speaking with a senior woman who is playing Soviet-era songs on a portable tape-recorder in protest. She is on crutches, so the police decided against detaining her. An officer with a megaphone is standing next to her asking her to leave the square through the loudspeaker. She smiles and responds with mocking phrases.

The police filled two PAZ minibuses with detainees and they drove away.
