You're reading: Demand for IT specialists in Ukraine 50% up in Q3

The demand on the Ukrainian IT specialists market in July-September 2020 increased by 50% compared to the second quarter, GlobalLogic has said.

“The Ukrainian IT market is recovering quickly, it lacks qualified personnel. Only GlobalLogic in Ukraine has grown by a record number of 460 specialists in two months, and 57% of all open positions in the group of companies in 14 countries are in ours. Now more than 750 positions are open, and we plan to grow by at least 300 engineers a month,” Andriy Yavorsky, the Vice President for Strategy and Technology at GlobalLogic, said.

The company also noted that in the third quarter, in comparison with the previous one, the demand on the Ukrainian IT talents market increased by 50%.

IT companies are mainly looking for Middle and Senior specialists, that is, with experience in the field of two and five years, respectively.

According to GlobalLogic, the need for novice engineers (up to one year of experience) is only 17%, while the demand for more experienced engineers (Middle and Senior) is 37% and 33%, respectively.

The main directions are Python, QA Automation & Manual, JavaScript, Java, NET, C/C++ and DevOps. At the same time, 50% of positions are open in Kyiv, 27% in Lviv and 21% in Kharkiv.

“Due to the shortage of qualified personnel, the industry did not receive at least $12 million in export earnings to the Ukrainian economy in October alone,” the GlobalLogic study says.

The company also noted that over the past five years, the number of open positions for technical specialists has grown by an average of almost 30% per year, while the number of engineers themselves is only 18%.

“The shortage of experienced specialists is influenced by the need for systematic training and the difficult process of searching for engineering talents. To close one position, GlobalLogic, on average, needs to consider at least nine candidates. But even after getting on a project, an engineer needs to develop hard (70% of the time) and soft (30% of the time) skills. For this, more than 320 trainers and mentors of the company invest about 6,000 hours annually in internal training programs and courses,” the report says.

In the period from April to October, the company has already closed 1,068 positions, more than 25% of them in the direction of QA Automation & Manual and more than 11% in JavaScript.

GlobalLogic Ukraine is the largest software developer in Ukraine. It has offices and more than 4,500 specialists in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv and Mykolaiv.
