You're reading: SBU blocks activities of Russia-financed ‘bot farm’ in Kyiv

Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine have blocked the activities of a “bot farm” in Kyiv, which was sponsored from the territory of the Russian Federation.

According to the SBU press center, it was found that the lawbreakers used specialized hardware and software systems to create and promote fake accounts on social networks.

“They spread false information to manipulate public opinion on the eve of the local elections. To organize illegal activities, the organizers of the bot farm used SIM cards of Ukrainian mobile operators,” the message says.

In addition, the SBU recorded that the capacities of this “bot farm” was used by certain political forces for black PR against opponents.

During the searches, law enforcement officers found and seized computer equipment with installed specialized software, telecommunications equipment. More than 6,000 SIM-cards, draft records of registration of users of social networks who posted materials of a provocative nature to the detriment of information security in Ukraine were also seized.

As part of the pretrial investigation under Article 258-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the facts of involvement of representatives of the special services of the Russian Federation in the functioning of these complexes are being verified.
