From flying taxis to plant-based pork and robotic companions, the largest tech expo on the planet – CES 2020 – introduced top tech startups and innovative solutions to the global market last month.
For the fourth consecutive year, Ukraine took part in this annual tech expo too, showing off its latest tech innovations.
Side-by-side with Amazon, Microsoft, Sony and Facebook, six Ukrainian startups exhibited their high-tech gadgets at the annual Las Vegas trade show.
EdPro.Amperia
This education-focused Ukrainian startup has created Lego-like building blocks for students to conduct lab projects on electricity and magnetism.
The startup claims the technology is safe and can be combined with existing lab equipment for experiments.
The kit also includes a guide for students and teachers with relevant theory and supplementary experiments.

Mosquito Control Ltd (SEMCS)
This Ukrainian engineering company creates mosquito traps that use natural attractants, carbon dioxide and heat instead of toxic pesticides.
The startup claims the product is safe for both people and the environment, and traps target only female mosquitoes, leaving males intact.

UATAG
This Ukrainian startup promises to protect any property – from sneakers to parcels – from forgery and counterfeit by applying blockchain technology.
The company’s mobile app uses an authentication sticker with a scannable QR code to verify the authenticity of any item. Once scanned, the app will show an image of the original product to compare with what users hold in their hands.

CamTouch
This device turns every surface – even a wall – into an interactive board.
The tool developed by the Ukrainian student Andriy Konovalenko from Luhansk Oblast allows users to take notes on any surface with a stylus. It is compatible with any third-party projector, even a TV screen, and users can manage presentations and work with a program installed on a remote computer.
The startup has already attracted the attention and support of U.S. tech giant Microsoft.

Effa
Following global eco trends, startup Effa created a first-of-its-kind toothbrush made entirely from nature-friendly paper and recyclable materials that daily plastic usage and a reduced carbon footprint.
Effa’s paper body is made from fast-growing sugar cane, and the head consists of cornstarch and nylon. Both parts are detachable and can be recycled.
Effa plans to start selling its toothbrushes in 2020. Tourists, hotels and airlines are the target audience.
The startup’s CEO Dasha Kichuk told the Ukrainian media outlet Liga.Tech that the popular U.S. streaming service Netflix plans use their toothbrushes during one of their film shoots.

This device monitors the physical and mental health of people living with bipolar disorder.
The technology collects patient’s data via fitness trackers, smart-rings or smart-watches to monitor heart rate, sleep cycles, changes in social behavior and smartphone usage. This data is then uploaded to Google Health API or Apple HealthKit and analyzed by the machine learning-powered server.
It sends users notifications to help prevent a possible bout of symptoms and alerts patients, physicians and families of upcoming crisis episodes.
