The Pechersky District Court of Kyiv has changed the measure of restraint for people who are not involved in the murder of the 3-year-old son of the deputy of Kyiv Regional Council Vyacheslav Sobolev at the corner of Lva Tolstoho and Tarasivska Streets in the center of Kyiv in the evening of December 1, 2019, and were detained on the day of the crime, the court said on Facebook.

The court reports that they were considering a request to extend the period of detention in respect of citizens Gelani Mezhiev and Pavel Nikiforov, who were informed of a suspicion of a criminal offense, which is not related to the attempt on Sobolev and the murder of his child.

“A preventive measure in the form of detention was applied to these citizens long before the events that took place in Kyiv near Tarasivska Street. We also draw attention to the fact that the request of the preliminary investigation body to extend the period of detention in respect of these persons did not contain any mention of these events and related to the facts of the seizure of other people’s property in another period,” it said.

The court regarded the statements about actions aimed at the release of the persons involved in the murder of a child as misinformation and manipulation.

As reported, the Pechersky court released from custody Mezhiev and Nikiforov, members of a group of Russian Yusup Abuyev, who, in turn, is the alleged organizer of the assassination attempt on Sobolev, which killed his 3-year-old son. “Mezhiev, Nikiforov, as well as Alexei Velichko and Dmitry Onufrienko are suspected of extorting money by using violence and threats of murder,” member of Kyiv City Council Oleksiy Novikov, one of the victims in the case of extortion of money by members of the group, said.
