Two soldiers have died in a fire after a collision between a Toyota sedan with a military vehicle transporting nine soldiers of Ukraine’s Armed Forces. A third soldier received leg injuries.

“According to preliminary information, the driver of Toyota was not driving at a safe speed and collided with a Gaz-32223, which was traveling in the same direction,” police said.

The Gaz vehicle, in which there were nine contract soldiers of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, caught on fire as a result of the collision. Two of them located in the part of the vehicle used for transporting prisoners were burned to death at the site of the accident. The soldier driving the vehicle was hospitalized with leg injuries.

Emergency workers, Kyiv region police inspectors, investigators from the Makarovsky police station and medical workers arrived at the scene.

The 36-year old driver of the Toyota was detained and the vehicle was seized for use as evidence.
