Eight people injured in an explosion and a fire at a gas processing station in Derhachivsky district of Kharkiv region have been delivered to Kharkiv emergency hospital.

“Eight people were delivered to the ambulance. Five people of them are in the burn ward: two people are in intensive care, in critical condition, three people are in the ward,” the press service of Kharkiv City Council said.

In addition, one more victim is in the polytrauma ward, one is in the operating room, after which the person will be sent to the traumatology ward, and one more has a hypertensive crisis, he is examined by physicians.

As reported, at about 11:47 a.m. officers of the State Service of Ukraine for Emergency Situations called ambulance service, that a natural gas explosion occurred on the territory of a gas processing station in Derhachivsky district of Kharkiv region. As of 1:30 p.m., the fire was extinguished.

As a result of the incident, according to updated data, two people died, another nine in a state of varying severity were hospitalized in medical institutions in Kharkiv and the region.

The police initiated criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 273 (violation of safety rules at explosive enterprises or in explosive workshops) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
