Ukrainian serviceman Yuriy Mykhailov, 21, was killed in combat on Aug. 22, his brigade announced on Facebook.
Mykhailov, a lieutenant from the 28th Mechanized Brigade, suffered a fatal gunshot during shelling by Russian-backed militants on the front line in Donetsk Oblast in eastern Ukraine.
Mykhailov was a native of Mykolaiv, a southern Ukrainian port city of 490,000 people.
At least 50 soldiers have been killed in action in eastern Ukraine since the beginning of 2021, including Mykhailov. The previous casualty took place on Aug. 19.
Since Russia invaded eastern Ukraine in 2014, 14,000 people have been killed, nearly 24,000 wounded and at least 1.5 million people displaced, according to Global Conflict Tracker.
Even though there has been a formal ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia-controlled militants in eastern Ukraine since July 27, 2020, Ukraine reports ceasefire violations almost every day.
