You're reading: 31% fewer foreigners vist Ukraine in the first half of 2021

Some 1.4 million foreigners visited Ukraine in January-June, which is 31% less compared to the same period in 2020 and 75% less than in the first half of 2019, the State Agency for Tourism Development said, referring to the data of the State Border Guard Service.

According to a press release, in general, the number of visitors to Ukraine in the first half of this year increased by 9% compared to the second half of 2020.

“The first half of 2021 was marked by a gradual recovery of tourist flows both in Ukraine and in the world. We observe a significant increase in visitors in the second quarter of 2021, their number was 4 times higher than the one in the corresponding period of 2020, and amounted to 3.4 million,” the agency said on Facebook on Aug. 18.

During this period, the number of tourists from Saudi Arabia (14,000) in Ukraine increased 40 times, by 69.6% – from the United States (34,000), by 26% – from Israel (26,600), by 100% – from Armenia (7,000), by 40% – from Georgia (15,500) and by 67% – from Azerbaijan (16,000). At the same time, citizens of Moldova visited Ukraine most of all – 368,000 people.

According to the agency, 70% of foreigners visiting Ukraine in January-June are Europeans, which is 10% less than last year. At the same time, the number of visitors from Asian countries increased by 8%, their share was 24%.

The agency reported that in the first half of 2021, Ukrainians travel abroad by 15% more than last year – 5.7 million people.

“Traditional tourist destinations are such countries as Turkey [774,000] and Egypt – the number of tourists increased by 88% and is 705,000 people,” the report says.

At the same time, the number of tourists heading to the Dominican Republic has significantly increased by 238%, to 35,000 people.
