The number of officially confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ukraine has reached 1,251 as of 10 a.m. on April 5, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Health.
Thirty-two people have died from the disease, no new deaths have been registered since late April 4. Twenty-five Ukrainians have recovered from COVID-19 since the beginning of the outbreak.
As of early April 5, the largest number of coronavirus cases in Ukraine have been registered in Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast (307 cases), Chernivtsi Oblast (220 cases), Ternopil Oblast (160 cases), and Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast (105 cases).
The number of COVID-19 cases in Ukraine is expected to reach its apex on April 14-15, according to Viktor Lyashko, Ukraine’s chief sanitary doctor.
Over the last 24 hours, 31 Kyivans contracted the disease. According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, most of them have not traveled abroad.
Starting on April 6, Ukraine will intensify quarantine measures until April 24 to prevent the rapid spread of COVID-19: it will be forbidden to go out without medical masks.
The government will also ban walking in a group of more than two persons (unless accompanying children). Walking in parks, squares, recreation areas, forest parks and coastal zones is also forbidden starting April 3; children under 14 are not allowed in public places without adults.
Globally, COVID-19 has killed over 64,744 people as of April 5; 246,760 patients have recovered. The number of infected has surpassed 1,2 million as of April 5.
The United States, Spain, Italy, Germany and France are struggling the most to curb the spread of the disease. These countries have now more registered COVID-19 cases than China, where the pandemic began.
