The number of officially confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ukraine has reached 1,308 as of 10 p.m. on April 5, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Health.

Thirty-seven people have died from the disease, an increase of five since the previous report on the morning of April 5. In all, 28 people have recovered in Ukraine since the beginning of the outbreak.

The novel coronavirus in Ukraine spreads slower than in countries with the highest number of cases, such as Spain, Italy and the U.S., according to Ukraine’s Chief Sanitary Doctor Viktor Lyashko.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Ukraine is expected to reach its apex on April 14-15.

To prevent the rapid spread of the coronavirus, the government intensifies quarantine measures starting on April 6. It will be forbidden to go out without medical masks and visit public places like parks, squares, recreation areas, forest parks, coastal zones.

Children and elderly people are recommended to stay home.

Globally, COVID-19 has killed over 69,000 people as of April 5, and infected over 1.2 million people; more than 264,000 patients have recovered.

The United States, Spain, Italy, Germany and France are struggling the most to curb the spread of the disease. These countries have now more registered COVID-19 cases than China, where the pandemic began.
