The novel coronavirus has killed a third Ukrainian based in Italy, Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Kateryna Zelenko confirmed on March 20.

A 60-year old Ukrainian woman who lived in the Italian province of Bergamo died from pneumonia due to COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. She is the sixth Ukrainian to die from the coronavirus since its outbreak started in China and spread to Europe and now around the globe to more than 122 nations.

The second fatal case from COVID-19 among the Ukrainian community in Italy also occurred in the province of Bergamo on March 20. The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the death of 62-year old Halyna from Lviv Oblast who worked in the municipality of Romano di Lombardia in Bergamo province.

The first official fatality of a Ukrainian in Italy from the coronavirus was reported on March 13. It was 66-year-old Raisa Malysheva, who died in the city of Chiari in Brescia province four days after she was diagnosed with COVID-19.

Currently, 13 Ukrainians infected with COVID-19 are being treated abroad, while 38 Ukrainians are in isolation outside Ukraine, the foreign ministry reported on March 19.

The coronavirus death toll in Italy is now the world’s largest, as the number of fatal cases has jumped to 4,032, surpassing China’s death toll by more than 770 fatalities.

Globally, COVID-19 has been detected in over 284,534 people and killed over 11,839. More than 93,566 have recovered from the disease.

In Ukraine, 41 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed on March 21. Of them, 25 cases have been registered in Chernivtsi Oblast, three in Kyiv Oblast, three in the city of Kyiv, two in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, two in Zhytomyr Oblast, one in Luhansk Oblast, one in Ternopil Oblast, one in Kharkiv Oblast, one in Lviv Oblast and two in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast.

As of March 20, three people have died of COVID-19 in Ukraine.
