You're reading: 59 people found guilty in Euromaidan cases

Fifty-nine people have been found guilty in the cases on crimes against the activists of Euromaidan and the Revolution of Dignity, indictments have been approved on 46 of them, the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) said in an interview with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

“The law enforcement agencies of Ukraine notified 445 people of suspicion in these cases, in particular 48 officials and 228 law enforcers, including 27 investigators, 20 prosecutors and 23 judges. Some 195 indictments on 298 people were sent to court. Courts found 59 people guilty and indictments have been approved on 46 of them,” the PGO said.

The special investigations department notified 14 people, including officials and heads of law enforcement agencies, of suspicion over the first nine months in 2019, according to the PGO. Pre-trial investigations against 11 people have been finished and indictments on them have been sent to court. Judges have announced one guilty verdict over these months.

In general, the special investigations department checked into over 4,100 episodes of crimes and notified 288 people of suspicion on some of them. Eighty-one indictments on 162 people have been sent to court. Courts found 20 people guilty and convicted 19 people.

According to the department, 2,442 people, including 1,721 civilians and 721 law enforcers, suffered during the Maidan.

As reported, lawyer Yevhenia Zakrevska said that the investigation into the Maidan cases had stopped from November 20 for an indefinite time because the Verkhovna Rada failed to pass necessary amendments to the law on the State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) on time and will be able to get back to the issue on December 3.

On November 18, 2019, SBI Director Roman Truba said that the SBI set up a unit for investigating crimes committed during the 2013-2014 mass protests.

On November 27, 2019, Prosecutor General of Ukraine Ruslan Riaboshapka said that the PGO was going to hold investigative experiments to probe cases of Maidan.
