You're reading: 7 servicemen injured in shelling in Donbas

On July 26, four servicemen of the Joint Forces Operation (JFO) received fragmentation wounds and three others – combat-related traumas, the JFO press service reported.

The injuries were the result of targeted shelling by Russian occupants in Donbas (the region in eastern Ukraine currently occupied by Russia).

According to the JFO, after providing first aid, the wounded were transported to a medical facility.

“The health condition of one serviceman is serious, of another one is of moderate severity, and of five others – satisfactory,” the Operation reported.

According to Operational and tactical group “East” (OTG, the grouping of Ukrainian military and the area of its operations in the framework of the war in eastern Ukraine), Russian-led militants fired at the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the area of OTG responsibility with prohibited heavy artillery weapons.

The Ukrainian servicemen opened fire in response to Russian-led shelling.

The OSCE representatives were informed about the actions of the militants through the Ukrainian side of the joint center for control and coordination of the ceasefire and stabilization of the demarcation line, the JFO reported.

The Joint Centre for Control and Coordination on ceasefire and stabilization of the demarcation line is a special group controlling the implementation of Minsk agreements, composed of representatives of Ukraine and Russia.

This is not the first time Russian-led militants have violated the ceasefire in Donbas.

According to the analytical portal “Slovo I Dilo”, 205 daily violations of the ceasefire were recorded in the area of the JFO from June 1 to June 30 (286 recorded in May).

The source noted the OSCE’s mentioning of deteriorated security situation in Donbas over the past few weeks.
