Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine Mykola Balan, during a military council, told what tasks are performed by the National Guard units in the area of the Joint Forces Operation (JFO) on different lines and about the results of the service of guards in the JFO over the past six months.
“In particular, Balan said that today the battalion and tactical group of the fourth operational brigade (Rapid Response Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine) is carrying out tasks as part of the JFO to maintain the battalion defense area on the first line. And the personnel of the special operations department of the Main Directorate of Ukraine’s National Guard and special forces of the National Guard were directly involved in combat missions as part of groups with counter-sniper and counter-sabotage struggle of the JFO,” the press service of the National Guard said Dec. 5.
The National Guard officers, in particular, detained and handed over to competent authorities 186 people – 27 people allegedly involved in the activities of illegal armed groups and 159 people suspected of committing an offense or involvement in criminal activities in Ukraine and abroad. They established the location of the forces and means of illegal armed groups. Thirteen caches with weapons, ammunition and explosives were also identified, and a large number of weapons and ammunition were seized, among which, in particular, 56 artillery shells and mines, and almost 5,000 cartridges for weapons.
