The Chernivtsi City Council has decided to name municipal enterprise Chernivtsi International Airport after First Spaceman of Ukraine Leonid Kadeniuk.
“The deputies supported the remarks of the commissions and voted to change the name of the enterprise to the Chernivtsi International Airport named after Leonid Kadeniuk, with the introduction of appropriate amendments to the decision of the session and the regulations of the enterprise,” the Chernivtsi City Council reported on its website.
The authorized capital of the enterprise is approved in the amount of more than Hr 86.6 million.
Kadeniuk is the first and so far the only cosmonaut of independent Ukraine, a test pilot, Major General of the Air Force of Ukraine, Hero of Ukraine who has made a space flight. He flew into space as part of the joint Ukrainian-American space mission STS-87 Space Shuttle Columbia, which was held from November 19 to December 5, 1997.
He was born on January 28, 1951, in the village of Klishkivtsi, Khotyn district, Chernivtsi region.
Kadeniuk died on January 31, 2018, in Kyiv from a heart attack.
