You're reading: Avdiyivka Coke Plant re-connected to power

The Avdiyivka Coke Plant (AKHZ, Donetsk region), Europe’s largest coke producer, part of Metinvest Group, has been reconnected to electricity through a power transmission line input, the company’s general director Musa Magomedov said on Feb. 20.

“One input has been repaired. Only one of the four,” he wrote on Facebook.

“One input, for the town, the plant and the DFS [a water-supply company], out of the four, amid continuous fighting – catastrophically little,” he said earlier.

The power transmission lines in the Avdiyivka were damaged in shelling on Feb. 18.

The AKHZ is Europe’s largest coke plant. The company makes 31 types of products, the main being metallurgical coke. The company supplies its products both to Ukrainian and foreign companies. The AKHZ accounts for 23 percent of Ukraine’s bulk coke market.

Since the start of the conflict in Donbas the AKHZ has halted 13 times. The enterprise has repeatedly come under massive shell attacks.

The AKHZ is part of Metinvest Group whose biggest shareholders are System Capital Management (71.24 percent) and Smart-Holding (23.76 percent).

Metinvest Holding is the managing company of Metinvest Group.
