Ex-Prime Minister of Ukraine (2010-2014) Mykola Azarov remains a corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NASU).

The National Academy replied to the request of the Interfax-Ukraine agency answering the question on the number of members and corresponding members of NASU, including foreign ones, who were deprived of their status in 2019, and the number of members and corresponding members on whom the procedure for withdrawing this status has been started for the corresponding period. In addition, the agency wondered whether NASU intends to begin the procedure of depriving Azarov of the status of a corresponding member.

“In 2019, members of the NASU of Ukraine (full members (academicians), corresponding members, foreign members) were not deprived of their status, the procedure for depriving them of this status did not begin,” the response to the request says.

The National Academy also emphasized that deprivation of full members (academicians), corresponding members, foreign members of the NASU of their status is carried out on the basis and in the manner specified in paragraph 5.18 of the charter of the NASU.

In particular, academics, corresponding members, foreign members of the NASU can be deprived of their status by decision of the general meeting of the Academy: at their own request; based on a personal statement; in the event of repeated gross violation of the requirements of the Charter of the NASU or the commission of actions that caused significant damage to the authority of the National Academy; based on the submission of the corresponding department of the NASU or the Presidium of the Academy.
