The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy and Housing and Utilities Services has approved a bill that cancels the possibility of purchasing electricity from countries that are not members of the European Energy Community under bilateral agreements, MP Oleksiy Kucherenko (the Batkivschyna faction) has said.

“The committee voted unanimously to cancel import,” he said on the air of the Ukraina TV channel.

As reported, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Sept. 18 approved the amendment of MP Andriy Gerus to the law of Ukraine on the electricity market, allowing to buy electricity under bilateral agreements from the countries that are not members of the European Energy Community. Gerus explained the need for his corrections by improving competition in the country’s electricity market, which could lead to lower electricity prices for industrial consumers.
