You're reading: Bill on liability for illegal enrichment registered in parliament

A draft law on the confiscation of illegal assets of officials and the punishment for the acquisition of such assets is registered in the Verkhovna Rada, the Ukrainian parliament’s official website said.

Respective bill No. 10358 on amendments to some legislative acts of Ukraine on confiscation of illegal assets of persons authorized to perform the functions of state or local governments, and punishment for the acquisition of such assets was initiated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

The text of the bill is not currently available on the parliament’s website.

Earlier, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Danylyuk announced that Zelenskiy’s bill on the return of criminal responsibility for illegal enrichment would be submitted to the Verkhovna Rada on May 31.

As reported, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine on the constitutional representation of 59 lawmakers declared Article 368-2 of the Criminal Code on illegal enrichment as unconstitutional. This decision caused concern of the International Monetary Fund, the embassies of the United States and the United Kingdom.

The fifth president of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, submitted his bill to the Verkhovna Rada, which was to reinstate this article in a different edition. In turn, lawmakers filed more than 10 alternative initiatives.
