Boryspil International Airport (Kyiv), Ukraine’s largest airport, in January through November 2016 serviced 7.924 million passengers, and this was 17% up year-over-year and 24% up on 2014, the airport’s press service has reported.
In November 2016 alone the airport serviced 660,000 passengers. It was 30% up on November 2015.
“The number of transfer passengers grew by 50% in January-November 2016 year-over-year, to 2.112 million,” the airport said.
The airport said that protests of the staff and the cancellation of a large number of flights by Lufthansa airline, a leading foreign partner of the Boryspil airport affected growth of passenger flow in November 2016.
“If not for force majeure with Lufthansa, our indicators for passenger flow would have been higher,” the press service said, citing acting Director General Yevhen Dykhne.
Boryspil airport services over 68% of passenger transportation in Ukraine. It is the only airport in the country servicing long-haul flights. Over 50 airlines fly from the airport on more than 100 routes worldwide.
