You're reading: Canada hands lung ventilators over to Ukrainian army

A ceremony of handing seven lung ventilators over to the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the Canadian government has taken place at the Main Military Clinical Hospital, the press service of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine said.

The equipment was passed with the assistance of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in Ukraine.

“The UNOPS and the government of Canada decided to reallocate more than $100,000 for the purchase and delivery of seven lung ventilators, which can be used during transportation and in intensive care units. From the next week the equipment will be used for emergency aid to servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the ministry said.

UNOPS Country Director in Ukraine Irina Sahakyan Vetter said that the organization works in close cooperation with its partners in Ukraine and all over the world to support efforts aimed at fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

“With this and many other projects the UNOPS in Ukraine continues supporting its national and international partners in the sphere of procurement during emergencies, project management and financial management, and is ready to deepen our cooperation for the sake of the interests of the people of Ukraine,” she said.

Canada’s Ambassador to Ukraine Larisa Galadza said that this is one of numerous examples of Canada’s assistance to Ukraine during the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. She also praised the fact that the equipment was purchased and assured the participants of the ceremony that Canada will continue strengthening its partnership with Ukraine.

Defense Minister of Ukraine Andriy Taran thanked the government of Canada for strategic partnership and said that today’s relations between Canada and Ukraine, taking into account the scale and deepness of their cooperation, are an example of how countries can help each other in difficult times of crisis challenges.
