TIRASPOL – Moldovan authorities warned on July 11 that the section of the highway between Chisinau and Odesa which leads into the unrecognized Transdniestria republic could be closed.
The announcement was made by Chisinau’s delegation at a meeting of the Joint Control Commission (JCC), the governing body of a peacekeeping operation in the conflict zone, the JCC press center said.
This is a response to Transdnistria’s expanding the road in the customs and border control area on entry to the Bender city if driving from Chisinau, the statement said.
Transdniestria could use the widened road to amass its forces there in case of an escalation, the JCC’s Moldovan representatives said.
Meanwhile, Transdniestria is motivating the increase by its desire to expedite passenger flows.
