You're reading: Chornobyl NPP confirms COVID-19 case

An employee of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant (NPP) has tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the Ukrainian state agency in charge of the exclusion zone said on June 23.

“On June 23, 2020, a staff member of the Chornobyl NPP was identified with a confirmed case of the respiratory disease COVID-19,” the agency said on Facebook on June 23 evening.

The patient, who is on a leave, was last at the NPP premises on June 9. “The worker has been ordered to self-isolate and is under medical observation,” the state agency said.

Another member of staff has been identified as a contact with the person tested positive and is now also self-isolating and under medical observation.
