General Director of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) Ihor Hramotkin has tendered his resignation because of a conflict with the leadership of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine.
He said in a statement to the team posted on the official website of the nuclear power plant that the concerted work of all involved parties was required to complete the projects implemented at the Chornobyl NPP, but the authorities created an artificial conflict between the leadership of the Ministry of Ecology Natural Resources and the NPP leadership.
“The attempts to apply a rational approach to solving the current situation led to the fact that the conflict associated with the financing of the enterprise and which started as an industrial one became deeply personal and resulted in my expulsion from the Ukrainian delegation at the Assembly of Donors on July 20. For the first time in 20 years, the director of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant was not allowed to participate in this fundamentally important event and did not have an opportunity to take part in the discussion of critical issues related to the implementation of projects, the customer of which is Chornobyl NPP,” Hramotkin said.
He also noted that he had been deprived of the opportunity to ensure the repayment of debts to the pension fund, guarantee the payment of salaries to the staff and cover the current expenses of the enterprise.
“I could not find a way other than my own resignation. I’m afraid that my withdrawal is the only thing that can draw attention to the current situation and at least partially solve the problem,” Hramotkin said.
“I am convinced that in the current situation the team of the Chornobyl NPP, like Ukraine, will be interested in appointing to the post of general director of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant a real professional with experience and knowledge of our site, as well as with relevant skills and understanding of the processes that are taking place here. I am confident that a new head of the enterprise will be able to continue the effective course of interaction and cooperation in the joint implementation of projects important for the entire world community,” Hramotkin said.
