You're reading: Chornobyl zone re-opens for tourists subject to lockdown restrictions

The Chornobyl zone has re-opened for tourists, the press service of the State Agency on Exclusion Zone Management has said on its Facebook page.

According to the order of the agency, mass events are allowed in the exclusion zone, in particular visits with a view to seeing it, taking into account lockdown restrictions.

Mandatory conditions for visiting the exclusion zone are temperature screening during getting on the bus and at the Dytiatky checkpoint, wearing masks or respirators, disposable gloves, and antiseptics for treating hands, as well as maintaining a social distance.

People with a body temperature higher than 37.2 or with symptoms of respiratory diseases will not be allowed to visit. If during temperature screening at the Dytiatky checkpoint people with high temperature or signs of respiratory deceases are found, the entire group will not be allowed into the exclusion zone.

The agency said that during the adaptive lockdown period there will be only one route: Zalissia, Chornobyl, Prypiat, Chornobyl-2 facility, Kopachi village and the Chornobyl viewing platform. The number of groups to visit cannot exceed ten people. The groups will move on a fixed schedule from the moment of arrival until the end of the visit.

Moreover, in the period from June 4 to June 5, a press tour will be held. The agency is developing accreditation conditions and a route for journalists.
