At least eight civilians have been wounded in shelling against the Ukrainian-controlled front-line city of Krasnohorivka, some 600 kilometers southeast of Kyiv.
As many as 14 buildings were damaged or destroyed, including a local school, a hospital and several residential houses, the Donetsk Oblast police reports on May 28.
The shelling from multiple rocket launcher systems engaged by Russian-led forces started at 6:40 a.m. local time. An hour later, the police started evacuating personnel and patients from the city’s hospital due to grave danger.
A local school was reported to have been directly hit by missiles that caused the roof to catch fire. The building may not be restored in time for the next academic year, which starts in September, the Donetsk Oblast police chief said on Facebook on May 28.

“During the today’s morning shelling of Krasnohorivka by Russian occupants, the hospital was 50-percent destroyed , two ambulances and a medical car were smashed,” Donetsk Oblast Governor Pavlo Zhebrivsky wrote on Facebook. “Due to water line damage, most of the city has been cut off from water supplies. The local drainage system was also harmed. Houses on 10 streets were damaged to various extents after direct hits.”
Ukraine’s representatives to the Joint Coordination and Control Center reported that the remains of as many as 12 rocket-propelled projectiles fired from the occupied territories were found at the scene.
The shelling of Krasnohorivka continued for almost three hours, until 9.00 a.m. local time, police say.
Police have already opened a criminal case regarding the recent attack.
