Clinics in 2018 increased procurement of medicines that are placed on the National List of Essential Medicines by almost 2.6 percent, buying them for the amount of over Hr 1 billion.

“In the work of the updated National List, according to which we provide the population with medicines today, we have a positive trend: this year the hospitals procured the medicines included in the list for more than Hr 1 billion. This is almost 2.6 percent more,” the press service of the Health Ministry reported, citing Deputy Minister Roman Ilyk.

At the same time, referring to the analysis of the pharmaceutical market, he said that the purchase of medicines by patients in 2018 was reduced by the same amount. “This means that we managed to reduce the burden on the patient’s pocket by more than Hr 1 billion,” Ilyk said.

As reported, a number of patient and nongovernmental organizations expressed concern about the fact that clinics and local authorities are not able to buy medicines that are not in the National List using budgetary funds.

At the end of 2018, the Health Ministry submitted a draft order for public discussion, which allows medical institutions to buy medicines, which are not included in the National List, with the exception of compounded preparations.
