Odesa City Council plans to restyle the Opera Theater Square. A total of 250,000 Hr. from the municipality budget is being allocated to an open architectural competition to source the best project design.
The winner will receive a prize of 125,000 Hr. Second place will receive 60,000 Hr. and third place 40,000 Hr. The jury also plans to distribute incentive awards totaling Hr 25,000, for the benefit of various competitors.
The competition starts on Sep 19, 2022 and ends on Jan. 27, 2023. Eligible entrants include professional architects, designers, students of architectural and artistic higher educational institutions, project organizations, authors’ collectives, as well as specialists in the fields of urban design/planning, architecture, landscaping and protection of cultural heritage objects.
The executive committee plans to include a requirement to eliminate elements of Soviet history. Competition participants are asked to submit proposals to move the Board of Honor to the Heroes of Socialist Labor of Odesa and the Board of Honor to the Heroes of the Soviet Union of Odesa to another place.
