Obolonsky District Court of Kyiv has postponed the session on the case of high treason of ex-President Viktor Yanukovych and the speech of prosecutors in the judicial debate on May 3; in the case of the absence of lawyers they will be replaced by public defenders.

“The side of the defense left the courtroom by trumped-up pretext. And the court will have to repeatedly inform, including Viktor Yanukovych that if the defenders cannot come for some reason or another to the next court session, the court will be forced to raise the issue of engaging defenders from the secondary legal aid center,” Judge Vladyslav Deviatko said at a meeting on April 19.

He said that the next meetings would be held on May 3 and May 4.

“We either wait for lawyers whom Viktor Yanukovych wants to see at court, or will decide whether to engage a defender at the expense of the state,” the judge said.

As reported, at a meeting on April 19, the Obolonsky court decided to proceed to the stage of judicial debate on the case of Viktor Yanukovych’s state treason, which was opposed by lawyers who left the courtroom after disputes with the court.
