The Obolonsky District Court of Kyiv has determined the procedure for examination of evidence during the consideration of criminal proceedings on charges of ex-President Viktor Yanukovych of high treason and will continue the session at 10:00 on July 6.
At a meeting on Thursday after an hour-long break, the court heard the positions of the prosecution and the defense regarding the procedure for interrogating witnesses and examining evidence, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent reported.
Court Chairman Vladyslav Deviatko said the court would first study the evidence and materials presented by the prosecutors and the defense lawyers and then will decide on the issue of questioning of witnesses for the prosecution and defense. The judge said the decision on summoning specific witnesses to the court hearing would be made after studying the documents and other evidence and asked the parties to prepare substantiated requests on the reasonableness of summoning specific witnesses.
According to earlier reports, Yanukovych is charged with encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine, which led to the death of people or other grave consequences (the crime is punishable by seven to 12 years in prison), high treason (the crime is punishable by ten to 15 years in prison), and waging an aggressive war or aggressive military actions (the crime is punishable by ten to 15 years in prison).
