Boryspil City District Court of Kyiv region sentenced Oleksandr Volkov to nine years in prison, accused of abduction, illegal imprisonment and torture of Ihor Lutsenko and Yuriy Verbytsky during the Revolution of Dignity, the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) told Interfax-Ukraine.

“The court sentenced the accused to nine years in prison,” the PGO said, noting that the prosecutor’s office will appeal against this court decision, since it does not agree with the verdict.

Earlier, the PGO said they identified another person who took part in the abduction, illegal imprisonment and torture of Lutsenko and Verbytsky.

In a statement posted on the PGO website on April 16, it is noted that this person, as part of a criminal group on Jan. 21, 2014, kidnapped protesters Ihor Lutsenko and Yuriy Verbytsky from the premises of the Oleksandrivska Clinical Hospital in Kyiv, and later, after taking the victims to the forest, participated in their illegal imprisonment and torture.

The PGO recalled that 15 persons have already been brought to criminal responsibility for committing these crimes, with respect to six of them cases are being considered by the courts, including two in absentia, nine people have been put on the wanted list.
