COVID-19 in Ukraine: 1,172 new infections, 1,709 dead, 30,039 active cases

Ukraine has identified 1,172 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours as of 9 a.m. on Aug. 1. There are currently 30,039 active cases across the country and 4,800 people are receiving treatment in hospitals, including 124 patients on lung ventilators. 

The largest numbers of new cases were registered in Lviv Oblast (145), Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast (123), Kyiv city and Odesa Oblast (101).

Lviv Oblast leads the tally with the highest number of active cases per 100,000 people (281.5), followed by Zakarpattia Oblast (235.8) and Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast (210.9), according to the Center for Public Health.

The total number of infections identified in Ukraine since the start of the pandemic stands at 71,056. A total of 39,308 people have recovered and 1,709 have died of the disease. 

In the past 24 hours, Ukraine has recorded 16 deaths from COVID-19, 232 patients have been hospitalized and 556 have recovered.

In total, 16,860 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests were administered across the country during the past 24 hours. In addition, Ukrainian laboratories carried out 17,367 antibody tests (ELISA), Health Minister Maksym Stepanov said at his morning briefing on August 31.

The health ministry also released an updated list of “green” and “red” countries. Foreigners arriving in Ukraine from the green zone countries have to present medical insurance covering COVID-19. Those coming from the red zone have to have medical insurance and either take a PCR test or self-quarantine for 14 days with a tracking app Diy Vdoma.
