Ukraine has registered 5,676 new cases of COVID-19 as of 9 a.m. on Jan. 8, bringing the total number of cases in the country since the start of the pandemic to over 1.1 million.
In the past 24 hours, 5,131 have recovered and 83 have died.
A total of 778, 345 patients have recovered and 19,588 have died in Ukraine since the beginning of the pandemic.
In the past 24 hours, Ukrainian laboratories have carried out 16,152 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests and 4,040 antibody tests. Over 5.7 million PCR tests have been conducted since the start of the pandemic.

The largest number of confirmed cases has been registered in the city of Kyiv (438), Mykolaiv (418), Donetsk (384), Dnipropetrovsk (376), and Kyiv (371) regions.
The Ministry of Health is planning to impose a lockdown from Jan. 8 through Jan. 24 when it expects the burden on the country’s hospitals to increase due to COVID-19 and flu cases. The lockdown shuts down all but essential businesses. Unaffected are pharmacies, groceries, gas stations, banks, postal operators, public transport, domestic/international travel and hotels.

On Dec. 30, the President’s Office stated that Ukraine’s Ministry of Health had signed a contract for the country to receive 1.9 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine produced by China’s Sinovac Biotech “in the shortest possible term.” Each dose will be purchased for Hr 504 (just under $18).
