You're reading: COVID-19: Security Service investigating officials in Mykolaiv region

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) is investigating into alleged neglect of duty by officials of Mykolaiv Regional State Administration who did not take urgent measures to fight the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) infection in the region.

“Officials of Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, under conditions of a rapid spread of the pandemic and the necessity to take urgent measures determined by the leadership of the state, did not take real measures to fulfill the decision of the regional council [on the purchase of medical equipment and allocation of additional financing for public health],” the press service of the SBU said.

According to preliminary investigation, such actions of officials could cause serious damage to lives and health of local residents during the COVID-19 outbreak.

The special service opened a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (neglect of duty).
