You're reading: ‘Crimean Tatar National Movement in 1917-1920s’ edition presented in Kyiv

A scientific edition “Crimean Tatar National Movement in 1917-1920s based on the archives of communist special services” has been presented in Kyiv.

“These documents are actually from the ‘Milli Firka’ case (the political party of the Crimean Tatars) …For the past three years we have been talking about the centenary of the Ukrainian Revolution, and it seemed to us that we undeservedly forget about Crimea, and about the processes that are there occurred a hundred years ago. Talking about the Ukrainian revolution, about the formation of the Ukrainian independent state at the beginning of the 20th century is impossible without talking about the history of Crimea,” said Director of the Branch State Archive of the Security Service of Ukraine Andriy Kohut at the presentation of the book in Kyiv on Jan. 27.

The publication “Crimean Tatar National Movement in 1917-1920 based on the archives of the communist special services” contains information previously unknown or inaccessible to the general public and specialists about one of the key periods in the history of the Crimean Tatar people indigenous to Crimea – about the national movement during the wars and revolutions of 1917-1920s.

The book consists of two parts: a historical tour and archival documents. Also, in the publication there are documentary Chekist translations of the four protocols of the constituent assembly and the first national parliament of the Crimean Tatars of Quriltai (December 1917), which are now in the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimea.

Researcher of the Research Institute of Ukrainian Studies of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine Andriy Ivanets and Director of the SBU Branch State Archive Andriy Kohut are the authors of the edition.

The circulation totals 1,000 copies. In addition, all documents published in the book are also available in electronic format.
