You're reading: Culprit of fatal road accident on Khreschatyk notified of suspicion

The perpetrator of the fatal traffic accident on Khreschatyk Street in Kyiv on Oct. 30, which killed two people, has been reported on suspicion of violating traffic safety rules, which caused the death of several people, Kyiv city prosecutor’s office said.

“By agreement of Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office, a 66-year-old driver of a foreign car has been notified of suspicion of a fatal road accident in the center of Kyiv. The man’s actions are qualified under Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine,” the prosecutor’s office said on its website.

According to law enforcement officers, the suspect was detained and is in the hospital under guard. The issue of choosing a preventive measure for the driver is being resolved.

It is noted that as a result of the accident, three people were injured, including a five-month-old child who was with his parents in the car that Land Rover bumped into. All the victims were hospitalized, according to the latest data, their condition is satisfactory.

Press secretary of Kyiv prosecutor’s office Nadia Maksymets said on her Facebook page on Saturday night that a family with a five-month-old baby had been injured.

“Three people were injured when an uncontrolled car drove into the roadway and crashed into other cars. Unfortunately, a family with a five-month-old baby was in one of the cars. All the victims were hospitalized,” she said.

The condition of the victims is assessed as satisfactory.

As reported, at about 16:00 on October 30, the metropolitan police on the 102 special line received information about a fatal road accident on Khreschatyk Street.

As a result of the accident, two people died at the scene, and another four were injured.

According to the published data of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and a photo from the scene of the accident, ex-member of the National Commission for Securities and the Stock Market (2009-2012) and the National Commission that regulates the financial services markets (2012-2014), Yuriy Nazarenko, became the culprit. In October 2014, he retired from the National Financial Services Commission, without waiting for the entry into force of the law on lustration.
