Czech Foreign Minister Tomáš Petříček has expressed concern about political persecution in the annexed Crimea.

“The Czech Republic condemns the politically and nationally motivated persecution of the people of Crimea, which it considers part of Ukraine,” he wrote on Twitter.

Petříček noted that 75 years ago more than 200,000 Crimean Tatars had been deported from the peninsula by the Soviet regime, tens of thousands of them died. He stressed that today people are imprisoned for political reasons or forced to leave their homes.
