Investigative bodies in Dagestan have completed the investigation into a criminal case against local resident Firuz Mirzoyev, who is charged with participating in the armed conflict in Ukraine, Rasul Temirbekov, senior aide to the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee for the region, told Interfax.
“Investigators have found that Firuz Mirzoyev, a resident of Dagestan, arrived in Ukraine via Turkey in 2014 to fight against Russia-backed separatists on the side of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. He received $1,000 ($50 per day) for that over the course of 20 days,” the source said.
The source said the mercenary received uniforms, weapons, munitions and temporary accommodation in a military camp in Kramatorsk, and fought for that city.
“Mirzoyev was detained by law enforcement officials in Tajikistan. He was handed over to Russia in May 2017,” Temirbekov said.
The case against Mirzoyev is being tried on the basis of the Criminal Code article concerning participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict.
