- The hunger-striking Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov, sentenced to 20 years in Russian prison after being subjected to a sham trial by a Kremlin-controlled court, is now in a critical condition, his cousin, Nataliya Kaplan, wroteon Facebook on Aug. 8.
- The Boxing Writers Association of America has once again put Ukraine’s Vasyl Lomachenko as No.1 among the world’s top boxers – regardless of their weight category.
- Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko’s press service says there has never been in any cooperation with either U.S. lobbyist and political consultant Paul Manafort, or his people. He has confirmed though that his top strategist met with Manafort team in 2014. Rick Gates, Manafort’s former business partner said in court he and Manafort did consulting work for Poroshenko.
- The Ukrainian media Internet advertising market expands by 32 percent in the first half of 2018 to Hr 1.094 billion, the Ukrainian Internet Association has said.
- The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine, or AMCU, has fined Ukraine’s biggest mobile operator Kyivstar for spreading wrong information about its prices. Kyivstar has paid the Hr 21 million fine, which is about $800,000.
- The Russian Supreme Court will review the conviction of Ukrainian journalist Roman Sushchenko, who was sentenced to 12 years in a high-security penitentiary for spying.
- Three smugglers attacked a border guard near the village Velykyi Bychkiv, Zakarpattya Oblast, some 700 kilometers west of Kyiv on Aug.7 and shot him in a back with a rubber bullet gun, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine said in a report published on Aug. 8.
- Ukrainian prisoners in Russia will be the focal point of the Minsk talks of the Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine on Aug. 21-22, according to the Ukrainian representative in the TCG humanitarian subgroup, Verkhovna Rada First Deputy Speaker Iryna Gerashchenko.
