British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv for talks with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky and Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, at a time of heightened tensions with Russia, which has stationed well over 100,000 troops along Ukraine’s borders.
“As a friend and a democratic partner, the UK will continue to uphold Ukraine’s sovereignty in the face of those who seek to destroy it,” Johnson tweeted before boarding a flight to Kyiv.
Zelensky meanwhile, told the Ukrainian Parliament earlier on Tuesday that “we are creating a new format of political cooperation in Europe between Ukraine, Great Britain, Poland.”
Mateusz Morawiecki said ahead of his arrival in Kyiv, that “living close to a neighbor like Russia, we have the impression that we’re living near a volcano.”
