The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has ordered the Russian Federation to urgently place Crimean Tatar activist Edem Bekirov, who was charged with the illegal storage ammunition and explosives in Russian-occupied Crimea, in a hospital due to the deterioration of his condition, according to Crimea.Realities.

Bekirov’s lawyer, Islyam Velilyaev, said the ECHR made such a decision on June 11.

“For my part, as a lawyer, I will forward this decision to the investigator on the case of Edem Bekirov and [Russian] Human Rights Commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova. If the investigator does not respond, I will be forced to go to court. Lawyers have been saying for that half a year that our client is slowly dying in a pretrial detention center. And every day matters for him,” the lawyer said.
