The Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture expects the signing of an agreement with Great Britain on political cooperation, free trade and partnership between Ukraine and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the near future, Minister Ihor Petrashko said following the results of a meeting with Ambassador of the United Kingdom in Ukraine Melinda Simmons.

“We are interested in maintaining the current level of trade and economic relations and, given Britain’s exit from the EU, we hope that the agreement on political cooperation, free trade and partnership between Ukraine and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland will be signed in the near future,” the ministry’s press service said, citing the head of the Economy Ministry.

During the meeting, the parties discussed mutually beneficial cooperation and exchange of experience in the fight against coronavirus (COVID-19).

“In 2019, Great Britain invested more than $2 billion in the Ukrainian economy and entered the top three major investor countries of our state,” Petrashko said.

He said that the new agreement would guarantee an uninterrupted trade supply chain.

Bilateral trade flow between the countries amounted to $219.3 million for two months of 2020, which is 1.2% more compared to the same period in 2019. The export of goods from Ukraine to Great Britain amounted to $109.2 million, which is 18.6% more. The import of goods from Great Britain to Ukraine decreased by 11.6%, to $110.1 million over the specified period.
