National Nuclear Generating Company Energoatom is ready for the autumn-winter period 2021/2022 and is ready to produce additional 650 million kWh by the end of the year, which is almost 3% above the electricity forecast balance.
“Energoatom has completed all the organizational and technical measures to prepare Ukrainian nuclear power plants (NPPs) for the autumn-winter period, during which at least 14 NPP power units will operate,” the company reported on its website on October 5.
Energoatom head Petro Kotin, whose words are quoted in the message, predicts that in October-December the company will be able to exceed the updated electricity forecast balance by 2.8% and produce an additional 650 million kWh.
According to the report, at the moment, the transitional (from 2020 to 2021) scheduled repairs of four power units have been completed: unit No. 5 of Zaporizhia NPP, as well as units Nos. 3,4 of Rivne NPP and unit No. 2 of Khmelnytsky NPP.
The company also expects the completion of scheduled repairs according to the schedule at Zaporizhia NPP units Nos. 2, 4, and Yuzhnoukrainsk NPP unit No. 1, as well as current repairs at Rivne NPP unit No. 3.
According to the company’s estimates, at the end of September, the reduction of scheduled repairs was 89.3 days.
As reported, the Ministry of Energy, in the updated forecast balance of electricity approved on September 24, increased the share of nuclear generation by 4% in 2021 compared to the previous document approved in April. According to the balance sheet, the volume of nuclear power generation increased from 81.316 billion kWh to 84.52 billion kWh.
