In the near future all cases of illegal logging, extraction of natural resources, the organization of spontaneous dumps, as well as the development of coastal reservoirs in Ukraine, will be monitored using aerospace surveys.

According to the press service of the State Space Agency, the relevant agreements were concluded by representatives of the State Space Agency and the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources during a meeting that took place on Feb. 15.

“We are very grateful to the State Space Agency for the opportunity to receive images from space in retrospect and collect reliable information about illegal logging or quarrying. Now, when going out for inspection, SEI inspectors will clearly know the coordinates of the places that need to be paid attention to in the first place, and they will quickly identify the perpetrators,” Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Roman Shakhmatenko said.

The press service reports that the practice of using spacecraft shows quick results in recording environmental offenses and identifying the perpetrators, and a retrospective analysis helps to understand in which territories enhanced control should be carried out.
