Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanyshyna signed three agreements with the European Commission to finance new EU assistance programs for Ukraine totaling 105 million euro, Uriadovy Portal reported.
Funding will be provided under the EU assistance package to Ukraine, aimed at supporting small businesses, reforms and overcoming the consequences of coronavirus (COVID-19) disease.
“Assistance from the European Union will be directed in a number of areas, namely, from strengthening the capacities of authorities and providing expert advice on reforms, to investing in small farms and innovative grants for the development of small and medium-sized enterprises. The implementation of these programs will stimulate the development of the Ukrainian economy, as well as will allow us to more effectively counteract challenges in the health sector,” Stefanyshyna said.
It is noted that 60 million euro will be allocated for the 2020 Technical Cooperation Program to increase the ability of the authorities to implement reforms under the Association Agreement. In particular, the ministries will receive expert support in the development and implementation of reforms. The program will also improve the quality of legislative processes in parliament, introduce the necessary reforms in the health sector, etc.
Another EUR 25 million will be allocated to the implementation of the EU Support Program for the development of agriculture and small farms in Ukraine. Small farms will be able to receive additional grant support, consultations and new skills to develop their own production and acquire land. The program will also improve resource management in forestry and fishing industries.
Under the EU4BUSINESS: Support for Small and Medium Enterprises in Ukraine program, EUR 20 million will be allocated. The program provides for the provision of grants for innovative projects for the development of small and medium-sized enterprises, the creation of new jobs and business development at the local community level, as well as the improvement of economic policies in this area in accordance with international best practices.
