Mariia Tilna from the east-Ukrainian Kharkiv Oblast was ten in 1932-1933, when her village was hit by the Holodomor, the genocidal famine of Ukrainians by the Soviet authorities, which killed millions. She recollects how her family survived off beetroot waste left after sugar production at a local factory and how many others died of hunger. Her story is one of many eyewitness accounts gathered in the expeditions of the Holodomor Museum.
